Indonesian Foreign Minister Praises Cambodia as a Model of Peace and Development

Phnom Penh: During a recent meeting, Mrs. Retno Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, commended Cambodia for its remarkable development and progress, asserting that the nation serves as a model of experience in balancing peace and development. She emphasized the profound statement that while initiating war may be easy, the consequences are long-lasting and unpredictable, as evidenced by the ongoing conflicts in various countries.

In her address, Minister Marsudi highlighted the critical importance of peace as a foundation for sustainable development. She recognized the ongoing efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia to maintain peace, expressing gratitude for their commitment to preventing the recurrence of past conflicts. “Achieving peace is not easy, and it requires continuous efforts,” she stated, reflecting on Cambodia's journey towards stability.

Additionally, the Minister informed attendees about the outcomes of the 5th meeting of the Cambodia-Indonesia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (5th JCBC), which took place from August 20 to 21, 2024. She lauded the meeting's success, noting it laid the groundwork for further strengthening diplomatic relations and cooperation in several vital sectors.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Indonesia, symbolizing a strong partnership built on mutual respect and cooperation. Minister Marsudi pointed out several promising areas of collaboration, including economics and trade, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people connections, as well as national defense and security.

As Cambodia continues to thrive as a beacon of peace in the region, Indonesia’s support and recognition reinforce the importance of steady collaboration between the two nations, ensuring both can navigate the challenges of development while sustaining the peace that has become integral to their shared progress.
